E-Z-Cat® Dry

Patients Can Self-Administer at Home

Home dosing necessitates the use of contrast with a lower risk of anaphylaxis. E-Z-CAT Dry is the only dry and ready-to-mix CT barium available. This orange-vanilla flavored contrast comes in lightweight foil packets that are ideal for mailing to patients in remote locations. Patients can be pre-dosed at home prior to coming to the facility, which is not practical with iodine. This may enhance department throughput, reduce patient waiting, discomfort and anxiety, and help minimize waiting room congestion.

Easy-to-swallow, good-tasting liquid that provides excellent patient acceptance and compliance.1-5

2.0% w/w formulation highly compatible with new scanner technology.
Long-lasting filling properties help clearly delineate the entire bowel. Consistent, premeasured dosing helps provide better control and uniform results.
Convenient foil pouches, packaged 50 to each dispenser carton, save storage space and shipping weight.
Transits through the GI tract as quickly as iodine. This allows for dependable patient throughput and reliable marking of important, intermediate anatomical landmarks.
Glass-free packaging for safety and proper waste management.
Avoids the bloating, diarrhea and nausea associated with iodine.1-2, 5

E-Z-CAT Dry or Iodine?
There’s just no comparison.

Mixing Add contents of premeasured foil packet to water and shake. Estimate patient requirements, then measure and mix iodine and water.
Taste Juicy orange-vanilla Requires the addition of flavorings to make the contrast palatable.
Safety1-3 The historical safety of barium sulfate. Adverse events associated with E-Z-EM CT oral contrasts are rare. And the few that have been reported were categorized as mild to moderate, not severe. Potential for hyperperistalsis and aspiration of media, or allergic reaction to iodine.
Volume 450 mL 500-600 mL or more
Absorption Barium is not absorbed by the body, so dosing volume can remain constant from patient-to-patient. Dosing volume must be estimated to account for patient's individual rate of iodine absorption which may lead to overdosing or incomplete filling.
Administration Easy enough for patients to mix and self-administer at home. Complicated measuring and potential for adverse reactions requires administration by a medical professional.
Consistency Consistent dosing yields consistent patient-to-patient results. Variable dosing volumes may cause inconsistent results.
